Some Restrictions on Parks, Libraries Lifted This Week
The county’s parks and library branches this week will begin lifting some restrictions imposed as part of the COVID-19 lockdown and offering certain services and amenities. Beginning today (June 29), Montgomery Parks will be reopening playgrounds to patrons under certain guidelines, and library book drops will open for returns (with some exceptions).

Montgomery Parks announced that some park amenities would reopen beginning today, May 7. The facilities that will reopen include all outdoor tennis courts.

Second Parkway Section Closed Weekends During COVID-19 Emergency
Montgomery Parks announced that a second section of Sligo Creek Parkway would be closed to traffic on weekends, beginning today (April 10) during the COVID-19 emergency. The closure, in effect from 9 a.m. Fridays to 6 p.m. Sunday, will allow additional space for walkers, runners and bicyclists.

Police Seek Help with Items Discovered in “Suspicious Situation”
County police are asking for the public’s help to identify some personal items discovered in what the department describes as “a suspicious situation.” The items, which include clothing, were found buried in late summer of last year in Nolte Local Park at 200 Denver Rd.

County Announces Thanksgiving Day Closures
The county has announced its schedule of closures for Thanksgiving Day Thursday, Nov. 28. All county offices, libraries and liquor stores will be closed, as will state offices and courts.

Parks Foundation Reaches Civil Settlement in Theft Case
The Montgomery Parks Foundation has reached a $300,000 civil settlement with a former employee accused of misappropriating foundation funds, according to a statement from John Robinson, the foundation’s president. Robinson discovered discrepancies in the foundation’s bank statements and other financial records in mid-January. Renovations to Juniper Blair Neighborhood Park at 7600 Blair Rd. in Takoma Park will continue this week, according to Montgomery Parks staff. The park should reopen at the end of this week, weather permitting.
