CREATE Arts Center is accepting artists’ submissions of works for the organization’s first juried art show, the group announced today. Artists from around the region can submit up to three images of original two- or three-dimensional art in any medium except video or film.

Silver Spring Man Charged with Vehicle Theft, Burglary
A Silver Spring man has been arrested and charged with vehicle theft and second-degree burglary, the county police department announced. Daniel Tesfamihret, age 37, of Braddock Road in Silver Spring, was found driving a vehicle stolen in Connecticut that was reported to the county’s Emergency Communications Center by a vehicle locator service.

Long Branch Library Reopens After $4 Million Renovation Project
Long Branch Library at 8800 Garland Ave. has reopened after a 10-month renovation, county officials announced today. The library closed in March 2020 for the project, which cost about $4 million. Due to the pandemic, services are limited to contactless holds pickup service and telephone service.

Governor Announces COVID Relief Funding for Entertainment Venues
Gov. Larry Hogan (R) announced $30 million in COVID-19 relief funding awarded to more than 90 music and entertainment venues around the state, including four in downtown Silver Spring. “These awards will save hundreds of jobs and help many of Maryland’s entertainment venues sustain their operations until they can safely and fully reopen,” the governor said.
