CREATE to Mark 35th Anniversary with Reception, Exhibit Opening
CREATE Arts Center will mark its 35th anniversary with a free reception and exhibit opening on Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 6–8 p.m. in the Tamar Hendel Art Gallery at 914 Silver Spring Ave. The exhibition will feature a diverse group of local artists, with both two- and three-dimensional original works including paintings, sculptures and textiles.

IMPACT Silver Spring Executive Director Jayne Park will be stepping down from her role effective December 31, according to an email received by the Source. Ms. Park is leaving the organization to “move forward towards new horizons and opportunities,” according to the announcement.

Two Silver Spring Nonprofits Win MCEDC “High Impact” Grants
Two Silver Spring-based nonprofit groups have been awarded High Impact Grants, two of the 108 recipients of awards from the Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation. The grants were part of the $3.3 million MoCo Economic Development Grant Program for Nonprofits that the MCEDC accepted applications for earlier this year.

Meals On Wheels Marks 50th Anniversary, Adds Vegetarian Options
Meals on Wheels of Takoma Park/Silver Spring marked its 50th anniversary, adding vegetarian meal options for its area clients. The organization began hearing of the demand from its clients, who are homebound neighbors regardless of their age or income level, and have added the menu items to meet those needs.

“Pocket Pet Palooza” Waives Adoption Fees for Small Mammals at Shelter
The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center will waive adoption fees for all small animals, such as rabbits, gerbils, ferrets and guinea pigs, for two weeks, from Aug. 15 to Aug. 28. Known as “Pocket Pet Palooza,” the promotion is sponsored by the nonprofit organization Montgomery County Partners for Animal Well-Being.
