County Releases Schedule of Closings, Changes for Labor Day
Montgomery County has released its schedule of closings and other changes for Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 2. Most county facilities will be closed, and public transportation will run on a reduced schedule.

County Announces Lineup, Schedule for Jazz Festival
The county has announced the full lineup and schedule for the 16th annual Silver Spring Jazz Festival. The free festival will be held from 3-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 on Veterans Plaza. Grammy-award winning trumpeter Arturo Sandoval will headline this year’s performances.

County Again Offering Grants to Assist in Food Security Issues
Montgomery County once again is offering grants, this year ranging from $2,000 to $10,000, to community organizations working with food security issues, according to a press release. Applications are available online and due by the close of business on Sept. 3.

County Formally Launches Business Connect in Silver Spring
The county formally launched its Business Connect program to support new and growing businesses during an event held yesterday at the Silver Spring Library. The program includes counseling, classes, workshops and other training and will be offered at three area locations.

Renovations to Juniper Blair Park Continue This Week
Renovations to Juniper Blair Neighborhood Park at 7600 Blair Rd. in Takoma Park will continue this week, according to Montgomery Parks staff. The park should reopen at the end of this week, weather permitting.

County Police, Communities to Hold National Night Out
National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign designed to promote partnerships between police departments and local neighborhoods, will be held tomorrow, Aug. 6, around the country. The county’s police department will be participating in various community events.
