“Pocket Pet Palooza” Waives Adoption Fees for Small Mammals at Shelter
The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center will waive adoption fees for all small animals, such as rabbits, gerbils, ferrets and guinea pigs, for two weeks, from Aug. 15 to Aug. 28. Known as “Pocket Pet Palooza,” the promotion is sponsored by the nonprofit organization Montgomery County Partners for Animal Well-Being.

County Issues Heat Emergency Alert for Aug. 11-12
The county’s Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security issued a Heat Emergency Alert that will begin at noon today, Aug. 11, and continue through 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12. A Heat Emergency Alert, a step above Tuesday’s Hyperthermia Alert, means that the heat index is forecast to be 105° F or higher.

County Executive Vetoes Silver Spring BID Legislation; Council Vows to Override
