Federal Face Mask Requirement on Public Transportation Remains in Place
The county’s Department of Transportation is reminding residents that while the county has lifted its mask mandate for most public indoor facilities, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirement for face coverings on all public transportation remains in place until at least January 18, 2022, and pertains to all forms of public transportation in the county.

Police Investigating Vandalism in Downtown Silver Spring
Detectives from the county’s 3rd District Patrol Investigative Unit are investigating two vandalisms that occurred on October 12 and 13 at Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring. Police have released surveillance video of the two suspects and are asking for the public’s help in identifying them.

County Lifts Indoor COVID–19 Mask Mandate
The county’s COVID–19 indoor mask mandate has been lifted, as of 12:01 a.m. today, Oct. 28. James Bridgers, the county’s acting health officer, officially notified the County Council yesterday that the county had achieved a “moderate” rate of COVID-19 transmission.

Second HAWK Beacon Installed on Fenton
The Traffic Division of the county’s Department of Transportation has installed a second High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk, also known as a HAWK beacon, on Fenton Street in downtown Silver Spring.
